he improved a lot
over the year."
Steve Jordan is this
year's recipient of the
Mike Coyne
Memorial Award for
Dedication,
Sportsmanship and
Leadership.
Bolton listed a
number of reasons for
choosing Jordan.
"If anything both-
ered him, he kept it
to himself, and he
played fairly and
played well," Bolton
explained. "The guys
looked to him for the
big kick and penalty
shots."
Bolton is happy
with the season over-
all.
"If we'd have gotten
blown out in a game,
I would have been
disappointed, but we
were competitive,"
Bolton said. "Guys
came out to play."
Bolton isn't sure if
he will be back to
- coach 'next season,
but sees a bright
future for this team.
Though there will
be a few key losses,
many of the players
will be back, Bolton
said.
"I think we'll be a
lot harder to beat
next year," he said.
Vande Borne aims for top five
From Page 11
Vande Borne tells you
he has been involved
in motocross racing
for•roughly half of his
life — about seven
years, he -says.
Listman was the
one that got him into
it, though 2006
marks Vande Borne's
first time racing at
the Walton
TransCan, a competi-
tion that draws rac-
ers from all over the
world.
He's racing in two
classes this year: 125
cc and GP Junior, the
latter of which is
open to bikes of all
sizes.
To prepare, he runs
eight kilometres
and lifts weights
for 20 minutes
every day.
There is con-
siderable time
spent on his bike
as well — he
attempts to get
out three times a
week for sessions
that last two to
three hours.
He echoes the
sentiment
Listman stated
in an Expositor arti-
cle about a year ago:
motocross racing isn't
simply a matter of
hopping on a bike
and twisting the
throttle.
"It's' harder than
people think," -he
says.
In addition to his
training, Vande
Borne races every
weekend during the
summer, travelling to
tracks all over the
province and as far
away as Ottawa.
Through motocross
he has made a num-
ber of friends from a
number of different
places.
Three years from
now, Vande Borne
would like to race
professionally, but for
now his eyes are set
on a top -five finish at
the TransCan.
Asked earlier in the
interview how he
likes his chances at
the Walton race,
Vande Borne
answered concisely:
"Pretty good.
Hopefully I can do
good."
When your ques-
tions are answered,
you thank him for his
time and walk away,
watching as one of
his peers runs
through the course at
Listman's place.
You. wonder how
eager Vande Borne is
to have another turn,
and figure the urge is
very strong.
Come this weekend
and the Walton
TransCan, he'll cer-
tainly have his
chance.
