Egmondville racer to participate
for first time in Walton TransCan
Ben Forrest
The interview is scheduled for
2:30 p.m. on a Friday afternoon, but
it's now edging towards 2:40 p.m.
Egmondville motocross racer Scott
Vande Borne is on the dirt track at
friend Tyler Listman's house when
you arrive, and doesn't seem eager
to get off.
He wasn't quick to grant the inter-
view in the -first place, actually,
agreeing to it only after the promise
that it won't take more than 10 min-
utes.
You watch him traverse the track
at what seems to be break -neck
speed, launching himself to dizzying
heights off the mounds of dirt that
dot the course.
He seems entirely at home here,
well in control, and certainly not in
a hurry to leave.
He finally does, however, remov-
ing his helmet to pose for pictures
and answering a series of questions
in succinct clips:
A polite and friendly -but -sheepish
expression marks his face — an
expression that says something like,
"Frankly I'd -rather be getting a root
canal than doing this."
You learn a thing or two about 14 -
year -old Scott Vande Borne in the
course of the 10 minutes he has
granted you, however. More than
the simple fact that he appears to
be, as a close acquaintance had
warned you prior to the interview, a
little shy. .

`Mites hold tourney
Londesboro played host to a swarm
of mites this weekend during the
year-end tri -county south tourna-
ment.
Divided based on their regular sea-
son standings, each of the eight
teams enjoyed three games in --pool
play. The top two teams in each pool
then moved on to the semi-final
round.
Stanley and Crediton faced off for
the `B'championship, with Crediton
coming out on top.
Undefeated throughout the tour-
nament, Winthrop claimed top hon-
ours in the 'A' division. Seaforth was
the runner-up.
