Rider from Brussels a mainstay on rodeo circuit
Jeff H'euchert
Since he was 13, Peter Hallman, of
Brussels, has been riding bulls com-
petitively.
Now 27, Hallman is a staple rider
on several rodeo circuits, and has
even taken up saddle-bronc riding.
Hallman, who works as a framer
in Kitchener, will be competing at
the Dodge Rodeo in Exeter this.
weekend, Aug. 11-13 in both bull
and saddle-bronc riding.
Hallman has travelled up and
down Ontario and eastern United
States competing, and says he's not
getting the slightest bit tired of it.
"I love the adrenaline you get rid-
ing a bull," he says. "And the friends
you make, the people you meet and
the travel," he adds.
Hallman has travelled as far north
as North Bay and Sudbury and as
far south as Virginia when he spent
two summers in the U.S. touring
with the American Professional
Rodeo Association.
However, maybe what he likes
most about competing, notes
Hallman, is "You get the chance of
making a paycheque after eight sec-
onds of work."
"I always thought that was cool,"
he says, "being 13 and making
money from the sport I was in."
Over the past couple of years,
Hallman has won single rodeo
events in both bull and saddle-bronc
riding.
He currently competes on the
Ontario Rodeo Association, the
Dodge Series, the International
Professional. Rodeo Association and
North American Professional
Cowboys circuits.
He says not a weekend goes by in
the summer when he's not travel-
ling to a rodeo.
His highlight thusfar came just
last year, when he won the Rodeo
Association Championship finals in
saddle-bronc riding.
