With one win, one loss
and one tie, the Seaforth
U13 soccer squad's sea-
son came to an end late
last week.
The year-end champi-
onship tournament was
held in Lucknow, and saw
Seaforth in a round-robin
group with Clinton Ajax,
Blyth and the Goderich
Knights of Columbus.
"It was a great tourney,"
says coach Gerry Gibbs.
"They knew they hada
chance (to advance) and
.they played to win."
Seaforth lost to Blyth
on Wednesday 3-2, tied
Clinton 1-1 on
Thursday and defeated
Goderich 3-0 on Friday

Jeff "Heiuchert
St. Columban's Team 1 boys U15
soccer squad put the finishing
touches on an undefeated season
this past Saturday, win-
ning the league cham-
pionship.
During the round
robin, the U15's
defeated both
Goderich Zellers and
Wingham 3-0.
In the quarter -finals
they beat Clinton 2-1
and then went on to
defeat the other St.
Columban squad- 10-1
to advance to the finals
against Lucknow.
Coach Andre Gras says his team
played a terrific season, and never
showed signs of quitting - even
when down.
"They showed heart and determi-
nation," he says. "Even when they
fell behind in some games they kept
their composure, played their game
and the goals came."
In the finals, Gras says his team
got "a good run for the title," from
Lucknow.
After regulation time the match
was tied and a shootout was used to
determine the champs.
After each team had
scored on their first
kicks, St. Columban's
goalie saved the next
three from Lucknow,
while St. Columban
scored on theirs, win-
ning the shootout and
championship.
Like they showed
during the playoffs,
goals were not hard to
come by for the St.
Columban squad.
Gras says on average, during the
regular season and playoffs, the
U15's outscored their opponents 6-1.
He adds that in the near future
the U15's are hoping to organize
some recreational games with teams
from Stratford, "to test their
strengths even more."

a high note.
The victory recorded
over Goderich was the
team's first - and last -
win of the season.
The U13's finished the
regular season 0-6-3.
However, Gibbs says the
squad played much bet-
ter than their record sug-
gests.
"They fought tooth and
nail. . The other teams
were just more experi-
enced," he explains.
Gibbs says the biggest
challenge his players
faced was adjusting to
the higher level of soccer,
after playing last season
with the U11 squad.
"They were playing
with a lot of larger,
stronger, faster kids.
Some of my kids just
bounced off (of them)," he
says.
"But they played hard
and gave it their all."
