FHT in Seaforth `underway' as prospective
board members invited to meet each other
From Page 1
Laviolette, who's planning the
wine and cheese party, says the pur-
pose is to allow prospective board
members of the FHT to meet each
other and learn what's still involved
to get the FHT up and running.
"We'd like it to be known general-
ly that we're underway but we don't
want to get people's hopes up pre-
maturely," says Laviolette, referring
to the close to 7,000 he estimates
live in Huron County and could be
looking to the FHT in Seaforth for
medical care.
Laviolette says the 3,000 to 5,000
former patients of doctors that were
once operating out of the Seaforth
Medical Centre, will be approached
first.
Former patients of Dr. Ken
Rodney, Dr. Sean Edwards, Dr. John
Yee and Dr. Craig Albrecht will be
phoned and.
triaged so that.
their medical
needs can be
determined.
Afterwards,
an ad will be run
in area newspa-
pers asking
orphan patients
to nominate
themselves_ for
care under the
FHT.
Laviolette
says it's likely

that the FHT in . Seaforth, as a com-
munity -driven FHT, will be serving
orphans throughout Huron County
since physician -led FHTs are made
up of doctors who are likely already
at the limits of their roster.
From the information gathered,
Laviolette says the ad hoc commit-
tee will be able to determine which
kinds of healthcare professionals to
recruit first for the FHT team,
including nutritionists, psycholo-
gists, social workers, pharmacists,
optometrists, respiratory therapists
and diabetic educators.
Laviolette says the process of
incorporation has begun and the
formation of a clinical . advisory
team, headed by Dr.. Rooyakkers,
has also begun.
The wine and cheese party will be
held at Home and Hearth on
Goderich Street West at 5 p.m.
"Following a year of uncertainty,
the cFHT (community -run family
health team) in Seaforth has once
again been approved and is pre-
pared to move forward," says the
invitation.
Deadline extended
for Western courses
The University of Western Ontario
has extended the part-time applica-
tion deadline for the fall course
offerings in Goderich to the end of
August, says the Lake Huron
Learning Collaborative.
With the deadline extended to
Aug. 31, there is still time to apply
for September's Sociology and/or
Biology courses being held by the
university at the Huron County
Museum in Goderich.

commitment to provid-
ing post -secondary
courses in Huron
County," said Pam
Hanington, board
member of the Lake
Huron Learning
Collaborative.
"This gives people
more time to check out
the courses and their
eligibility for financial
assistance," she said.
Jason Pitblado, of
Goderich, has enrolled
in both the Sociology
and Biology courses
and is looking forward
to the opportunity of
having university
courses offered locally.
"This makes it easier
for me to get a univer-
sity education so I can
further myself," said
Pitblado.
With a full-time job in
Goderich, the conve-
nience of night courses
offered in his home-
town helped him
decide to pursue a uni-
versity education.
"I probably would
have never started
(working towards a
university degree) if
these courses hadn't
been offered here."
