The spill into the Archibald. Drain was reported to the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) last Monday, July 24 and clean- up of the spill began the following Thursday evening. "The spill was completely contained.. None of it made its way into Silver Creek," said Annabelle Mackey, MOE regional community advisor for the southwest region. She added there was no environmental impact to fish or wildlife from the spill. Mackey said the source of the spill was a nearby hog and cattle operation but said the farm cannot be identified while the MOE's investigations branch is still looking into the matter. "Why it happened will be part of the investigation; If charges are laid, it will become public," she said, Pam Scharfe, of the Huron County Health Unit, said the health unit got involved because of concerns that a golfer retrieving a ball in the creek, even with a ball retriever, might get . sick from the manure.
