Cheryl Heath The distinctive aroma of sawdust filled the air in the technical depart- ment of St. Anne's Catholic sec- ondary school in Clinton Monday morning as 25 students began the first day of a week-long tech camp. The camp, provided for the second year under the Skilled Training Educational Partnership (STEP) umbrella, is giving students from area Catholic schools the rudimen- tary skills they need to complete a number of technical tasks. Course instructor Bart Drennan, a tech teacher at St. Anne's, says the week's worth of activities include a clock -making course Monday, the creation of a TV projec- tor Tuesday, a tour of Royal Homes in Wingham Wednesday, hands-on manufacturing and welding experi- ence Thursday and small -engine repair on Friday "We try and hit a few technical areas," says Drennan, who is lead- ing the program along with teacher Jason Steinmann. Drennan says the camp is laud- able as it gives children with an interest in tech a chance to hone their skills before hitting high school. Stratford Cinemas •..
