The Seaforth Fire Department recently pur- chased two new tools with the help of the Seaforth Community Development Trust. A cutter and a spreader - both of which.. are operated by the same power pack, were bought. • "We've never had power tools before. These are to complement the hand tools," says Phillips, adding the power tools can "snip off a steering wheel" if need be. Seaforth firefighters have already had six hours of training on the new hydraulic tools and will continue to train with them, says Phillips. Phillips says he went to the trust asking for finan- cial assistance since the firefighters make about: $1,500 every time they hold their Canada Day breakfast. "We'd have to do 10-15 breakfasts for these $20,000 tools," he said. "I thought I'd go to the trust and explain the situation that these tools will set us up in a good position to extricate victims and get them to the hospital quicker," he said. • News Susan Hundertmark photo In front row are Huron East Fire Chief Marty Bedard and Seaforth district Fire Chief Tom Phillips with the new extrication equipment that was recently purchased with the help of the Seaforth Community Trust.
