For the Avon Maitland District School Board, that means only one student representative will be allowed around the citizen -elected trustee boardroom for the entire year, eliminating the tradition of rotating that responsibility between students from different secondary schools. The 2006-07 student trustees -- as in the past, one name is submitted by each secondary school' student council -- were approved at a regu- lar board meeting Tuesday, June 27. But to accommodate Bill 78,: which has passed third reading in the Legislature and requires only the signature of the Lieutenant - Governor to become law, they've been given a new title: student sen- ators. Lucknow woman dies in head-on crash A 23 -year-old Lucknow woman was killed in Huron East on Tuesday, July 6 at 1:55 p.m. during a two -vehicle collision on Highway 8, reports the Huron OPP. Sarah Mann was driving east- bound on Highway 8 when her car crossed the centre line and was struck by a Mack cement truck com- ing from the opposite direction just east of Front Road. The vehicles struck head on. Mann was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the cement truck was uninjured. Huron Road was closed for several hours as the Huron County OPP with the assistance of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Unit investigated the collision. Depending on board -wide student population, it's possible some other Ontario school boards will have more than one student trustee at the regular board. They'll act as representatives for the `student body. According to Avon Maitland edu- cation superintendent Ted Doherty, it's possible further regulations will be developed under Bill 78 allowing for limited voting rights for the stu- dent trustees. He suggested student voting would probably be limited to certain types of issues.
