Recent graduate from Staffs gets first. professional
theatre job with new company in Goderich
ff Heuchert
Thanks to the intro-
duction of a new the-
atre company perform-
ing this summer in
Goderich, one area per-
former is getting the
opportunity to put her
talents to the test.
Bridget Norris, of
Staffa, has joined the
cast of the new'
Gairbraid Theatre
Company, that will:
perform this summer
out of the Livery
Theatre.
For 20 -year-old
Norris, who recently
graduated from George
Brown's theatre pro-
gram, the new theatre
company is providing
her with not just her
first professional the-
atre job since graduat-
ing, but also the
largest scale she's per-
formed at yet.
"I performed in high
schoolplays at
Mitchell District High
School. And at George
Brown the first year
was spent learning the
craft, the second year
we did a lot of studying
and in third year we
performed four shows,"
she says.
"But they were in a
pretty small theatre,
mostly for friends and
family," she recalls
over the phone, weeks
before the company's
opening performance.
Having learned step
dancing and the fiddle
since she was a young
girl, and having per-
formed several times
over the years with her
family in step dancing
and fiddle competi-
tions, showmanship is
not a new concept .to
Norris.
"I'm used to being in
front of an audience,"
she says, noting
though that she will
probably still be ner-
vous come her first
performance.
Making the process a
little bit easier has
been the inclusion of
several of her class-
mates from George
Brown.
"Ten to 12 of us audi-
tioned and eight of us
got into .the theatre
company. rm glad to be
working with some
classmates. It makes it
much easier starting
out," she says.
Thefirst performance
being put on by the
Gairbraid Theatre
Company will be Pillar
to Port Walkabout,
from June 17-29.
Norris says .the show

is a history piece focus-
ing on Goderich, and
unlike, a traditional
play, will feature the
performers actually
walking around
Goderich.
According to the com-
pany' -s . website, the
Walkabout will feature
actors and musicians
bringing 19th century
Goderich to life with
nature and architec-
ture as their stage.
"From Victorian
homes to rugged bluffs,
streetscapes to mans-
es, this easy -paced
walkabout has some-
thing for everyone and
is, a must for all those
wishing to experience
Goderich and theatre
at its natural best," the
site goes on to state.
"I haven't performed
much outside, so it's
going to be difficult,
but fun," says Norris.
"We're going to be
wearing big costumes
and it's going to be hot,
so we're going, to be
drinking lots of water,"
she adds.
Other performances
throughout the sum-
mer include The Great
Storm, about the great-
est freshwater disaster
in marine history;
Much Ado About
Nothing, one of
Shakespeare's most
successful comedies
and Celtic Myth
Children's Show, a
vibrant show featuring
themes found in Celtic
history.
Norris says that once
the summer ig over she
plans to moveback to
Toronto, where she'll
continue to audition for
theatre companies
there and in the mean-
time, look for a job on
the side.

• MUNICIPALITY OF HURON EAST
CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
FOR EXPANSION OF THE SEAFORTH SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT
AND UPGRADES TO THE MUNICIPAL WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM
NOTICE OF PUBIIC INFORMATION MEETING
The Municipality of Huron East is considering increasing the capacity of the Seaforth Sewage
Treatment Plant (STP) and upgrading the Seaforth municipal water supply system. The work .
is required to allow continued growth and development within the community and. to address
deficiencies identified with the existing water & wastewater systems.
Expansion of the existing Sewage Treatment Plant can be achieved by adding a third treatment
stream to the existing facility and upgrading the Oak Street Pumping Station by installing
variable speed motors. These measures will result in an increase to the treatment capacity of
the facility by as much as 50%. Treated effluent will continue to be discharged to the Bayfield
River via the Crozier Drain. Upgrades to the water supply network will be achieved through
the establishment of a new well supply located near the north end of the community of
Seaforth.
The projects are following the planning process set out for Schedule C and Schedule B
projects under the Municipal' Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) document. The
purpose of the environmental assessment process is to identify any potential environmental
impacts associated with the proposals and to plan for appropriate mitigation of any impacts.
As part of the public consultation program developed for these projects, an information
meeting has been scheduled to provide the public with details on the proposed works and to
receive input from interested persons.
A Public Information Meetinn is planned for Thursday, June 29th at the Huron East
Municipal Offices at 7:00 p.m. (7:30 Presentation),
Following the public information meeting, further comments on the projects will be received
