That was the agreement reached by friendly rivals Bob Fisher (of Egmondville) and John Brezaire, who owns • Willy's Burger Stop in Clinton. The . two. had faced off recently to see if Huron East (Fisher's home municipality) could raise more. money than Central Huron, where Brezaire is the deputy reeve, for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB)'s Walk for Independence. The event was held May 28 in Goderich. Fisher raised $2,300 personally, and Huron East managed to raise $2,900 in all. Central Huron, however, raised $3,800. Fisher had promised to work at Willy's for one week if he lost. Brezaire faced the prospect of mowing Fisher's lawn with what would only be identified as "a certain item of apparel" if he lost. Neither fate will be suffered, however, as the two have agreed to compete again next year and double the stakes. Fisher had joked last week that he would have to greet Brezaire with a bag over his head this Monday. He did just that, posing at an Expositor photo opportunity with_ a brown bag decorated with a frowning face obscuring his own vis- age. In all, $14,000 was raised for the CNIB in Huron County. That total was shy of their $20,000 goal, which Brezaire admitted was "a little disappointing." He was pleased with the amount raised, however. "The community is called upon a lot,. and to raise the $14,000 is a pretty good achieve- ment," he said. "There's not a lot of people involved, so it's a fairly small group of people raising that kind of money, so they should be awful proud of themselves." Brezaire said he agreed to the challenge simply because Fisher called him. "Bob has been an extremely kind and gener- ous person to me personally, and so when he made the calf, I mean, there was no question .I was going to do whatever Bob wanted," he said. The cause was dear to Fisher because he lost much of his sight "six years ago. The former owner of Seaforth's Pizza Train is able to make out vague images when light is pre- sent, but is completely blind in the absence of light. The two had never competed for a cause like this in the past, but next year is defi- nitely a go. "The next time he rings my phone, I'll be there," Brezaire said. "Especially because I won," he added with a laugh. Stay tuned to see who laughs last.
