Wong's Grill, which stands in the same location today. • Worst storm in recollection shakes neighborhood around Kippen in 1906 JUNE 10, 1881 The Mayor and Reeve each had a cow impounded on Sunday last. Thomas Denny has sold his farm op the Huron Road, McKillop to Ralph Thompson, his neighbor for the sum of $3,100. W.S. Mundell has purchased the farm of Wm. X. Grieve paying therefore the sum of $5,800. This includes the crops in the ground. It is a cheap farm at this price and we congratulate Mr. Mundell upon his purchase. Messrs. Biwden and Rawlings of Exeter, have opened a butcher shop in the building lately occupied by James Coxworth of Hensall. JUNE 15, 1906 Frank Gutteridge has been awarded the contract for the brick work on the Law building for the Canada Furniture Company to be erected this summer and the foun- dations is well underway. The woodwork will be done by the fac- tory hands. Many in the Kippen neighbor- hood received a severe shaking up during the storms of Thursday and Friday last. The oldest inhabitant says they were the worst in his rec- ollection. It swept fences, orchards, brush, timber and other stationar- ies and moveable articles before it, but fortunately no lives were lost in this vicinity. Thos. Welsh of Hensall had the dwelling he purchased recently from Frank Graham removed from the lot east of Mr. Arnold's hand- some brick dwelling and Geo. Joynt had what has been used as a ' laundry moved away also to make room for a fine new dwelling. JUNE 12, 1931 Mrs. Maude Hedden, as assistant in the Hensall post office, is enjoy- ing a couple of weeks holidays with her sister, Mrs. W. Kerr in Northern Ontario. Ethel Murdock is taking her place at the local post office. Nurse Mustard of Gypsumville who is now home on furlough, vis- ited her parents in Brucefield last week and returned to Thronto with her brother Thornton. Russel Wallace has rented James Cameron's house on the Mill Road, Tuckersmith, formerly occupied by John Holliday. Mrs. Robert Bonthron of Hensall was visited by a number of rela- tives during the weekend among whom were Mr. and Mrs. James McMartin and daughter of Barrie. JUNE 15, 1956 Faced with a demand for increased capacity Topnotch Feed Mills Limited announced this week an expansion program that will provide storage for an additional 60,000 bushels of grain. As a first stage in the program work commenced this week on the construction of light reinforced concrete tanks, each 65 feet in height. These are being located adjacent to the C.N.R. siding, between the flour mill and east of the feed mill. Ed Fink, Hensall businessman was the lucky winner of $1000 in a draw Monday night at a special $50 a plate dinner at Hotel London sponsored by the Shriners of London, and attended by 300 Shriners. A large number of St. Patrick's parishioners, Dublin attended the Family Rosary Rally at Seaforth on Friday which was conducted by Rev. Father Peyton. JUNE 10, 1981 Rumours about the future of Walton Public School were put to rest this week with the Huron County Board of Education's deci- sion to "twin" the school with Seaforth Public next year. Hensall's proposal to annex 200 acres of land in Hay lbwnship was carried another step this week 'with an Ontario Municipal Board hearing in the town hall Monday. Don Melady, of .St. Columban could be starting law school at University of Toronto in the fall. But instead, September will find him teaching English at a high school in Nigeria, the wealthy African country that has one-quar- ter of Africa's population and a lot of its oil.
