Bastid Sonz working on second CD
as Huron band tours the province
Crystal Stewart
Almost sold out of their debut
album and on the way to completing
their next this fall, the four guys
that make up Bastid Sonz are doing
what they do best - playing shows at
venues from Huron County through
Toronto and entertaining the fans.
Gerard and Dave Creces, original-
ly from Zurich, now living in.
London; Steve Dawe from Clinton
'and Perry Weido from Seaforth are
playing in Grand Bend in just over
a week - and they're hoping fans
who've just discovered them won't
have to hold off too long on getting
an album.
"We're down to just the bare
bones," says .Gerard speaking of the
number of copies left: The EP
"Timeout" is almost sold out but the
group decided instead of going
through a reprint they wouldwait
until completing their sophomore
attempt to release any more discs:
"It's getting a little competitive at
the merch table."
-It's no surprise - the group was
recently up for a London Music
Award in the World - Music category
and Timeout was included in the
Arena Expansion Fundraiser
Help us help them...
NR Renovations and The Siding People Inc. are donating 25 -cents for every linear foot of
eaves trough that is sold or installed for the months of May, June & July
to the Mitchell Arena Expansion Fund.
Perhaps it doesn't sound like much, but the average house uses 150-200 linear ft., whi ..
could translate to a S40-550 donation per house directly to the expansion fund.
The goal is 2,000 -ft. per week for the 13 -weeks of this promotion, giving a total of
26,000 -ft. and perhaps an additional S6,500 to assist in the
arena dressing room fundraising initiative!
WE'RE PROUD TO SUPPORT MITCHELL MINOR SPORTS IN THIS ENDEAVOUR.
AND HOPE TO COUNT ON YOUR SUPPORT!

CHRW FM (radio station of the
University of Western Ontario) . top
100 albums of 2005, ranking num-
ber 44, above such groups as The
Arcade Fire and the Pixies.
They have charted on several
campus stations across Canada and
their 2005 travels took them to
Danforth Music Festival and the
Molson Indy Grand Tuner, as well
as seeing them open for Canadian
acts Social Code and Bobnoxious.
A sound described as a fusion of
rock, punk and reggae, Gerard says
it has "that danceable feel to
it... underlying beat."
Bastid Sonz incorporate their
blue-collar working existence into
their songs.
"Right now we're still doing the 9
to 5 in order to support ourselves,"
says Gerard, adding they were "pay-
ing homage to that."
Although he says they know the
day jobs allow for buying equipment
and other necessities, there's a
downfall when looking to make a
career out of entertaining.
"You'renot always able to jump :in
your car and head off to (a certain)
place at the last minute," he says.
"You cantell the role that it plays
certainly when you listen to the new
stuff."
The guys planned to finish the
tentatively titled "Round Two"
sometime in June but decided to
keep on working, adding new mater-
ial.
"You get hit with a bunch of new
ideas that would also work well
with the old ones," he explains.
According to their ,bio "with songs
about survival, hard times and com-
ing to terms, the band offers a
unique perspective in an otherwise
angst -ridden rock universe."
It's a perspective that can be
glimpsed at one of their upcoming
shows, including the one in the
Bend May 26.
