FHT
business plan
Susan Hundertmark
Concerned that the business plan for
a family health team (FHT) originally
planned to be located in Seaforth has
"diverged from its original intentions,"
Huron East is asking questions of the
steering committee.
"We do want to know what's
happening on behalf of the community
and we'll get to the bottom of it," says
Huron East's economic development
officer Ralph Laviolette.
Laviolette, asked to get involved by
Huron East Mayor Joe Seili, has
written a letter to Penny Nelligan, chair
of the FHT steering committee, for
information about the direction of the
FHT's business plan.
In his letter, Laviolette says that . after
consultation with the Seaforth
Community Development Trust, the
Huron East Chamber of Commerce, the
Seaforth hospital trust, the mayor and
deputy -mayor, it's time for Seaforth to
get more involved in the planning..
"The time has come for the Seaforth
community to re -assert itself into the
future of what was intended to. be a
project nested and congruent within the
medical campus envisioned for the
Huron Perth CCAC, the Seaforth clinic,
the Seaforth hospital and the $595,000
SHARP-Healthkick initiative," says the

are dealing with the same challenges to
their local economies as Huron County
is.
But by working together on a
strategy, small towns can find
prosperity, marketing expert John
Young, told over 120 local business
owners at the first Business Expo held
in Seaforth last Thursday.
"With creative minds and people who
are willing to roll up their sleeves, it
can happen," he said.
Speaking on the revitalization of
rural downtowns, Young said it is
important to create a vision and a plan
for the downtown, including special
events that draw people to them.
"It's easier to win if you find out what
people want and give it to them in
spoonfuls," said Young.
But, he warned not to ignore the
strengths a town already has when
envisioning the future.
"A lot of people overlook the anchors
that are already there," he said.
Young, who is from the Niagara
Region, said that when big
