Players prepare to take the mould for
another season of baseball in Seaforth
Jeff Heuchert
It's almost time to load up on your
peanuts and Cracker Jacks - the
minor baseball season is just
around the corner.
And, according to organizer Cindy
Winsor, another great season can be
expected.
Minor baseball will include three
coed Pre -Mites, ttvo coed Mites, one
coed Squirt, one Peewee girls, one
Peewee boys and one coed Bantam
ball team.
Due to declining interest over sev-
eral years in T Ball, there will be no
team again this year, but they have
added a third Pre -Mites team, says
Winsor.
"It's better anyway, because this
way they have coaches tossing them
balls to hit and they can improve
their hand -eye coordination much
better than hitting off of a tee," she
adds.
Winsor says

Mites teams is finding parents who
can volunteer their time and :.• help
out.
Like last year, teams will play at
both Optimist Park in Seaforth and
the ball diamond in Winthrop.
Winsor says participation in minor
ball has been rising over the years,
and did again this year.
`Participation has been increased
by at least 20 kids. Kids had a great
season last year. Obviously word of
mouth spread," she says, adding
that the continual increase in regis-
tration is a good sign towards minor
baseball's future.
While some teams have begun
practising, teams will take to the
mound for the Mart of the minor
baseball season during the last
week of May and early June.

says the school newsletter.
The boys won two games

"We just decided to take up their
offer and try something new. We just
wanted a change of pace."
After two years there it was off to
Switzerland, where Devereaux
joined the DHC Lyss of the Swiss
Women's National League.
She explains that the league's
rules allowed each team to have up
to three foreigners on their roster.
"It was great. They paid for my
flights, food, accommodations, living
- everything," she says.
Now things seem to be settling
down for Devereaux, who has every
intention of competing with the
Thunder next season and pursuing
the sweep that evaded them this
year.
