Round-the-clock fundraiser will
involve downtown in pool donation

she says.

Rules of the
challenge
include pro-
viding your
own chair,
locating it
outside at all
times no
matter what
the weather
and remain-
ing seated for
the full 24
hours, except
for a seven.-
minute
even=minute break
at the top of the
hour. -
Lions Club
members will be
patrolling the
Main Street
watching for
anyone out of
their chairs, who
will be fined
$10.
And, that is
where the fun
find a $1,000
donation for the
pool, everyone
can sponsor a
downtown mer-
chant for $5.
"All of those
small donations
add up. We want
to make a lot of
money," she
says.
While the
northwest block
was originally
planning to chal-
lenge other
blocks in the
downtown,
Behnke says all
Seaforth mer-
chants are being
challenged to
participate and
anyone joining
in will be divid-
ed into teams.
"Eight on our
block have com-
mitted to doing
it and every
business in town
has a letter

Behnke says
the event, while

Madness, will be
something of a
spectator sport,

Some mer-
chants are
planning to
locate their
chairs close
together so
they can play
a Texas
Hold'em tour-
nament.
Others are
welcoming
"celebrity"
sitters to take
a shift or two in
the chairs out-
side their busi-
nesses.
Behnke says
some stores will
remain open the
whole 24 hours.
Her bakery will
stay open to pro-
vide washroom
facilities "and cof-
fee all night.
"I think a lot
of people are
going to jump
onboard. There's
a buzz going
around right
now," she says.
For Behnke,
her sponsors
have already
made the chal-
lenge more
interesting.
She's been
offered $5 to sit
for 24 hours and
$50 if she, can do
it without smok-
ing.
"For the pool,
I'll give it a
whirl," she says.
