Local talent's artwork
on display at Blyth
Gallery student show
A local student has contributed some pieces of work to
the Blyth Festival Art Gallery's student show, which
opens this weekend.
Three acrylic paintings from Seaforth's Michael
Eckert will be on display along with dozens of pieces of
work -from high school and a few elementary school stu-
dents.
"This annual show is an exciting venue for student
creativity and features the best work of young peoples
in Grades 7-12," says Robert Tetu, of the Gallery.
"A wide range of artistic media will be featured
including mixed media, sculpture, photography, draw-
ing, painting, printmaking and digital illustration," he
says.
Eckert, who is currently in Grade 11, completed his
paintings while in Paris last summer, where he was
attending a workshop that counted towards an art cred-
it at St. Anne's Secondary School.
This wasn't the first time Eckert has pursued art
classes outside of school.
"Since I was young, we (my sisters and I) used to go to
art classes in Stratford each summer," he says.
And the classes have paid off.
"Our whole family is artistic," he says.
"All of my sisters are in university or college for art."
Eckert's three submitted paintings are from architec-
ture within Paris.
One was painted while looking out from a window in
his room in Paris, another looking out from his class-
room and the third from outside looking up at a section
of a local university.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to see exciting art,
full of youthful energy. and the promise of careers yet to
come," says Tetu.
Eckert plans to attend the opening of the student
show and says he's looking forward to viewing the other
artist's work.
"Hopefully there'll be more (shows ) to come," he says.
The student show opens April 22 at 7 p.m. and contin-
ues until May 19. By JefHeuehert
