Environmental displays to join
Easter egg hunt on Saturday
Susan Hundertmark
The Easter Bunny isn't the only one coming
to town this weekend.
While the annual Easter egg hunt spon-
sored by the Seaforth Business Improvement
Area (BIA) will be held at 10 a.m. at Victoria
Park and St. James School Saturday, a num-
ber of other events will also be offered behind
town hall the same morning.
"The whole thing started because we decid-
ed to have an e -waste depot that day and it
grew," says Huron East Deputy -Clerk Brad
Knight.
E -waste in the form of small appliances,
electronic equipment, cellphones, jewelry,
Christmas lights and electric tools will be
accepted for recycling. A list of all
acceptable items was mailed out to
ratepayers recently and is available
at town hall.
"We don't want to see any fridges or
TVs - just the small stuff," says orga-
nizer Bob Fisher.
Knight says the e -waste depot at
the Walton landfill site has been a
great success since it began last fall,
recycling 7,600 pounds of e -waste.
"We've had phone calls - people
don't want to miss the chance to recy-
cle e -waste," says Knight.
As well, displays with an earth -
friendly theme will also be set up for
the morning, including the Ausable
Bayfield Conservation Authority, the
Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority, Friends of Hullett,
Festival Hydro, Communities in
Bloom, the Seaforth Horticultural?
Society, Emergency Services and the
Seaforth Food Bank,
Festival Hydro will be giving away
free compact fluorescent light bulbs
to the first 300 customers - one per
family - as part of the company's con-
servation program.
The Horticultural Society will be
30 -hour famine
raises $1,320
Seventeen youths at Egmondville
United Church participated in a 30 -
hour famine over the weekend, rais-
ing $1,320.
Glen Haney, who runs the church's
youth group, says the famine was to
raise money for the Seaforth and
area Foodgrains Bank.
"We do this to help out people in
other countries that have to experi-
ence what it's like without food in
their stomachs all the time," says
Haney.
The famine began at noon on
Friday, finishing Saturday evening
with a spaghetti supper.
They kept busy with several activ-
ities like bowling, swimming at the
Vanastra Recreation Centre and
crafts and movies at the church.

something for everyone," says Knight.
