Van Egmond Foundation
looks forward to busy 2006
The Van
Egmond
Foundation is off
to a good start in
2006, with its annu-
al meeting and election of officers on
Saturday, April 1.
Chairman, Jim McIntosh and the
committee chairs reported on the
past year's fundraising activities,
such as Country Breakfasts, the
Harvest Supper, and Ciderfest.
Many volunteers have helped with
community activities to raise funds
to maintain the Van Egmond House.
The parklike setting around the
Van Egmond House is often used by
photographers for wedding pictures.
The renovations are nearly com-
pleted of one of the smaller build-
ings on the property through funds
from the Ontario Trillium
Foundation.
The other board members of the
Van Egmond Foundation are vice
chair, Pat Saundercock;: secretary,
ltll ItIg lit)Ilti
Foundation
Gladys Van
Egmond; treasur-
er, Jean Fox, and
directors, Peter
Spittal, Vivienne
Newnham, Brenda McIntosh, Ralph
Smith and Jenny Streutker.
Guest. speaker was David Scott,
playwright, and author of a play.
"The Ballad of Stompin' Tom" which
will be performed at the Blyth
Festival this summer. David spoke
on Tom Connors' life and how the
project of writing the play unfolded.
Maintenance of the grounds is an
ongoing occupation, and would be a
good project for students needing
volunteer high school hours. Spring
cleanup and raking of leaves and
branches is needed.
The local Communities in Bloom
committee has suggested that the
Van Egmond property be improved
with strategically -placed flower
beds and 'plantings in 2006.
