Huron County Warden Rob Morley, county librarian Beth Ross and Rosemary Rognvaldson, library board
chairwoman look on as MPP Carol Mitchell announces $170,000 in one-time funding for the Huron
County library system.
Provincial grant adds. $170,000
to Huron County library system

Huron library patrons will soon
have a lot more to choose from
thanks to a recent provin-
cial funding announce-
ment.
Saying there was "no
more deserving cause,"
Huron -Bruce MPP Carol
Mitchell announced a
$170,000 one-time grant
for the local library system
to "improve its collection
how they deem fit" at the
Huron County Library
head office in Clinton on
March 31.
'We have asphalt to move
us down the road -and we
need. the libraries to move
information down the
road," Mitchell said,
adding she'd like to see the
province's libraries operate
on a Liquor Control Board
of Ontario (LCBO) like
system.
"No matter where you go,
it's the same price and the
same product. We want to
give every community the
same accessibility, as if
they were living in
Toronto."
While there are no condi-
tions on the funding, which
follows the provincial gov-
ernment's $8 million com-
mitment to library digitiza-
tion, Mitchell said family
literacy is the proposed

Happy to see unexpected fund-
ing, Huron Warden Rob Morley
said, "bring it on." Friday's
announcements — for the library
and land ambulance departments —
gave the county close to 800,000
post budget dollars.
"With all of the extra costs we
are in a mode of doing what we
can afford to do, rather than what
we should do," he explained.
"This money will go a long way to
getting us back on track in that
regard."
County library committee chair
Rosemary Rognvaldson and coun-
ty librarian Beth Ross were also
on hand for the announcement,
stressing the importance of pro-
moting lifelong family literacy.
According to Ross, the money
would be used to expand the exist-
ing collection — including books,
magazine, CDs, DVDs, videos
and more and benefit all branch-
es. Local patrons have access to
resources provincewide and
beyond through the existing inter-
library loan system.
Mitchell said more local funding
announcements are expected, as
her government "rolls out the fine
details of the budget."
"A budget is a footprint. There is
only so much detail in it," she
commented. "We like to make
announcements like these, so peo-
ple can see how the budget is
affecting their community."
