After holding the Big Bike for
Stroke event in Seaforth for the past
two years, the Heart and Stroke
Foundation is moving the event to
the Clinton Raceway on Monday,
May 29.
"Part of the reason we're moving it
is because people get excited about
the opportunity of riding on the
track. It stimulates competition,"
says organizer Keith Courtney.
Teams on the 29 -seater bike will
this year be taking one or two laps
around the raceway track, a distance
of five-eighths of a mile for each lap.
Each team should take 10 minutes to
complete the ride.
Last year, the teams rode the big
bike 1.5 to two miles throughout the
streets of Seaforth for 20 to 25 min-
utes.
"This way it's all done more quickly
and we can get more teams
involved," says Courtney.
He says riding at the racetrack will
also add to the collegial spirit and
fun of the event.

The 10 -minute rides will allow
teams to gather together and cheer
each other on during their rides.
Last year, teams rode one after the
other, dispersing after each ride.
Each ride will also be announced
by the racetrack announcer in
Clinton.
"We're going to try and' feed the
announcer information about who's
on each team so he can make com-
ments during the races," says
Courtney.
And, while no teams will be actual-
ly racing each other at the same.
time, just like a horse race, there
will be a prize for the fastest time
around the track.
A barbecue will be held at the 'end
' for everyone who participates.
Courtney says five teams have reg-
istered so far including Huronview,
the Scotiabank from Exeter and
Mitchell, Goderich Walmart,
Heartland Credit Union and a new
entry from the Clinton Raceway.
While 11 teams participated last
year, Courtney says he'd be "ecstat-
ic" to have 12 to 14 teams involved.
"We're hopeful that teams from
Seaforth will follow the event to
Clinton," he says.
Bike Big for Stroke was also held
in the past in Exeter and in
Goderich.
Teams who want to register can
call Courtney at 1-888-287-7775.
