next fall.
"Beyond that we're looking at the
individual criteria set by each
employer," she says.
She adds that university and col-
lege students can start their place-
ments as early as April, while high
school students will probably wait
until July.
Interested applicants can submit a
cover letter and resume to
Healthkick Huron via email.
Students will have to specify
which position they are applying for.
Overholt says she will be looking
for students who are interested and
students that the placement will
benefit.
"A student that is already pursu-
ing a career in health care can take
a lot away from the experience,"
says Overholt.
Placements will be posted on the
Healthkick Huron website.

Healthkick seeking students
Healthkick Huron will soon be
looking for a number of students to
take part in their Rural Healthcare
Work Placement program.
According to Healthkick project
manager Laura Overholt,
Healthkick Huron received tremen-
dous feedback from both the stu-
dents and employers who partici-
pated in the previous work place-
ments.
"The feedback we've gotten is that
it was very valuable," she says.
"The hosts have said it was a valu-
able experience for students because
they got to learn what the jobs
entail."
This past, fall three students were
placed in local pharmacies.
She says that because the pro-
gram has been highly successful so
far, Healthkick was able to expand
and offer a wider range of health-
care facilities to students for place-
ments.
Overholt says some of the employ-
ers offering a placement this year
include medical centres, long-term
care facilities, hospitals, chiroprac-
tors and in-house support services.
Overholt says 12 businesses have
been approved to take part in the
placements.
Healthkick Huron offers a grant
worth up to a maximum of $3,000 to
employers, which can be put
towards wages for the students.
Students' responsibilities will vary
depending on where their place-
ment is, says Overholt.
She says one placement is for a
research position while a few others
are for clerical duties.
"In some positions they'll (the stu-
dents) be exposed to patients;" she
says. "They'll be involved in the
environment."
In certain placements, Overholt
says the students will have to have.
a basis of knowledge before hand;
She says she hopes to have noti-
fied all of the employers by the end
of the week so they can start adver-
tising to students.
Overholt says they're looking for
students . who live in Huron County
and will be enrolled in either high
school or a post -secondary school
