HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuron Expositor, 2006-03-15, Page 13St. Anne's senior boys bring home silver medals Jennifer Hubbard St. Anne's senior boys' hockey team ended its best season ever last week, bring- ing home Huron -Perth and regional silver medals. Led by coach Steve Geiger, the Eagles com- peted at the Western Ontario. Secondary School Athletic Association (WOSSAA) championships on March 8. The Clinton -based team dominated its semi-final , game against the first place Thames Valley team from Glendale high school in Tillsonburg. L or e n z Guntensperger scored three goals, Ryan O'Reilly had two goals and Mike Van Aaken had one goal for an impressive 6-2 win. Facing its Huron - Perth rival — and defending WOSSAA champion — F.E. Madill . of Wingham, St. Anne's fell 5-1 in the champi- onship game for a sec- ond place finish. Mitch Masse scored the lone Eagles goal. The WOSSAA silver medal was the boys' second of the season, a first in the team's histo- ry. After beating Listowel 2-1 in the Huron -Perth semi- finals, St. Anne's lost 6- 2 to Wingham to claim silver on Feb. 27. Geiger said he was very happy with the team's "outstanding season" and is looking forward to building on • the boys' success next year. Grade 9 and 10 stu- dents will be competing in the junior boys' hock- ey tournament in Stratford on April 5.
