HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuron Expositor, 2006-03-08, Page 24News The Huron Expositor a March 8, 2006 Poge 24 Huron .East pares down municipal grant budget Susan Hundertmark Huron East council shaved sever- al thousand dollars from its munici- pal grants in 2006, agreeing to $17,204 after budgeting from $24,000. At a recent meeting, council dis- continued its $200 grant for a geog- raphy award at Central Huron Secondary School, with councillors remarking that students from Huron East also attend high schools in Wingham and Listowel. As well, it discontinued a $3,000 grant to the Hensall arena with warnings from Deputy -Clerk Brad Knight that a reciprocalgrant of $1,100 from Bluewater to the Vanastra Recreation Centre will probably also be discontinued. Requests from Ethel for play- ground equipment and from Moncrief Hall were transferred to the municipality's newly -created parkland reserve fund. Groups continuing to receive grants include $6,500 to the Seaforth Lions Pool, $2,000 to the Seaforth Santa Claus Parade, $1,000 to the Brussels Fall Fair and $700 to the Van Egmond Foundation. Also, $500 grants go to the Brussels Horticultural Society, the Brussels Santa Claus parade, the Huron Plowmen's Association, the Seaforth and District All -Girls Marching Band, the Seaforth Horticultural Society, St. Columban Soccer, the Walton Area Sports Club and the Winthrop Ball Park. The Seaforth Fall Fair and the Huron County Farm and Home Safety Assocation will receive $200, the Seaforth Legion will receive $104, the Belgrave, Blyth and Brussels School Fair will receive $100 and the Brussels Legion will receive $50.
