At their February monthly session, two new committees were established to look at ways to improve the county in the future. In two separate motions, a commit- tee was struck to look at . developing an economic devel- opment strategy for the region while another was formed to look at long-term issues. The first group, titled the Warden's Economic Development Task Force, has asked for .money to be set aside in this year's budget. One member of the group, com- prised of • county councillors, suggest- ed $200,000 be spent to develop a strategy. Goderich Mayor Deb Shewfelt said Huron County is los- ing out on major investments, such as an ethanol plant. Developing a plan to promote the eco- nomic viability of the area would ben- efit the entire coun- ty, not just one municipality. Another commit- tee will look at ways to bring the council into the future, although at the advice of the war- den, no money will ' be budgeted for the new committee. Warden Rob Morley said the group needs to look at asset manage- ment as equipment ages. . Another role for the committee would be to deal with unforeseen sit-. uations that arise. By Mark Nonkeis
