The scenic views out over Lake Huron are very popular spots for wedding photogra- phers in this area. The bride and groom seem to be enjoying the view of each other just as much, if not more. A wedding day at the races by Royce Rieck June is the traditional month for weddings, although a racetrack is not where most couples would choose to tie the matrimonial knot. But when a friends suggested to Dawn Leslie and Mike Lebold that Grand bend Motorplex would be a great place for them to get married, they both real- ized that would be the ideal setting. "We just love going up there," said Ms. Leslie. "Last year I raced my car and Mike has raced his motorcycle there for a few years and we've been to several national events there." The residents of Crystal Lake e-mailed Ron Biekx, the general manager of Grand Bend Motorplex, who put them in touch with an international Hot Rod Association (IHRA) official in Norwalk, Ohio, where they were given approval to be married on the starting line at the sixth annual Mopar Canadian Nationals. "We've known each other for eight or nine years and we dated a cou- ple of times about seven years ago, but, we never really connected then," said Ms. Leslie. But in September of 2003 we got together and have been together ever since." At approximately noon on Saturday, June 11, the happy couple said their vows before thousands of witnesses after being introduced to the crowd by IHRA president Aaron Polburn. Both the bride and the groom wore black motorcy- cle suits, so that following the ceremony they could settle their first domestic dispute - where to go for a honeymoon - by racing their motorcycles. Mr. Lebold scored the win, which means the hon- eymoon was in British Columbia rather than New Orleans. A tailgate party in the parking lot served as a reception hall for family and friends.
