Something new bb Lynda Hillman Raple g Something just a little bit different was what bride-to-be Carrie Simpson had in mind for her wed- ding. - The Sept. 10 wedding was at the Shall B inn near Centralia and the reception in Exeter. The special day for Carrie and Anthony Triebner began at 3 p.m. with just the immediate family and a few close friends gathering on the front lawn on the Inn. The groom arrived on a Harley-Davidson. In a normal setting, the family would not have been able to see their daughter, granddaughter, sister before the wedding but in this case Anthony and Carrie decided they wanted the photos taken before the cer- emony. The girls walked out of the front door of the Inn in the usual proces- sional fashion while fami- J ' ..,.,. 'fir,......_. _.. "We then greeted our parents and grandparents which is a memory I will always cherish," says Carrie, "as I was able to see their immediate reac- tion as they saw me as a bride for the first time." After greetings they started right into photos which Carrie says is quite non-traditional but more couples are doing today. She says doing the pic- tures first breaks the ice and she wanted everyone to be relaxed as they walked down the aisle. They had a cocktail dinner after the pictures and then walked down the aisle. She said this also eliminates the waiting period for guests. "Some believe that taking photos before the cere- mony misses out on that special breathtaking moment when the bride enters and the couple meet. We still had that, we just didn't share that very inti- mate moment with 200 other people, which is what we wanted," says the couple. Also in the "what's different about this wedding" column, they didn't have flowers. Their bouquets were made of peacock feathers, which cost about $100. Carrie says flowers are a big expense so with a bit of creativity they were able to cut costs and still have beautiful flowers. They got married at 7 p.m. so there was no din- ner. After the ceremony they had an ice cream cart bike on the site. This was a highlight as guests were lined up waiting for service from an "ice cream boy" dressed in black complete with a top hat. They did- n't have a cake , just finger desserts and Carrie says no one even missed it. She said she has gone to many weddings where they almost forget to cut the cake. They did not write speeches, they wrote cards to their bridal party which they felt was more personal. Carrie and Anthony say weddings today are becom- ing less traditional and more personal. Couples are adding personal touches that reflect on them. "Not all of the guests will like it but it suits the couple and makes the wedding theirs," Carrie stress- es. They wanted the day to be relaxed and memo- rable and didn't want to miss a thing. They were not rushed and they didn't miss anything that would become a cherished memory. They didn't throw the bouquet or the garter and bombineers were not included for guests.
