A bridesmaid's tale of wed
by Crystal Stewart
When I was asked to be a bridesmaid
in my girlfriend Angie's wedding I had
somewhat conflicted feelings. By far I
was more excited because I'd never
been in a wedding party before.
But after hearing all the horror sto-
ries of bridezillas, and hideous yet
expensive dresses, I'll admit I was a lit-
tle concerned.
I could only hope my
good friend wouldn't suc-
cumb to the pressure of
creating the perfect day,
to the point of making
other people's lives diffi-
cult.
The good news is she
didn't, not even close.
And the day was all the
better for it.
First of all, for everyone
who signs on as a brides-
maid and gets a poofy,
frilly or unflatteringly
coloured dress chosen for
them, I feel their pain,
but I also feel a little like
bragging about mine.
All of Angie's brides-
maids got a chance to try
on the dresses and make
moi.

ng happiness
a final decision, which is nice when
you're going to be the one wearing it.
The dress was fall colours - a burnt
orange knee length dress under a
sheer poncho style cover-up.
They looked beautiful in contrast to
her white dress for the outdoor fall
pictures. Not to mention we can easily
wear them again if we want and they
didn't cost an arm and a leg.
As far as I'm concerned ugly ensem-
bles don't make the bride look better
by comparison - they make the whole
group look all the less magical.
Before the wedding I heard even
more stories of bridesmaids ending
friendships over events surrounding
the wedding. Luckily, our group wasn't
one of them.
And unlike what I'd heard about
brides not allowing such things as
haircuts or unbelievably even weight
gain before the big day, the bride in
my case wasn't so strict.
However, when we were standing in
the back of the church getting ready to
walk down the aisle, I realized I
wouldn't really have blamed her if she
was a little more high strung.
Leading up to the big day I was even
feeling a bit anxious, wondering if I
would trip walking down the aisle, or
maybe have an unfortunate wardrobe
malfunction.
I could only imagine what it felt like
to be the one in the white dress. At
least I had four other girls I could pin
any possible mishap n - by individu-
ally convincing the guests during the
reception that it was one of the other
girls wearing the identical dress who
had tripped.
Turns out I never needed to worry
myself with anything. The wedding
went beautifully and we all made it
down the aisle, avoiding any "Funniest
Home Video" mishaps.
When much of what you hear about
weddings these days is raging brides
and wedding party breakups, it's nice
to be reminded they can still go off
with only one big hitch, the marriage.
