Gowns: What's
"in" for 2006
by Sarah Mann
Almost every little girl
dreams of the dress - the
wedding gown.
For a bride-to-be, the
most exciting part
besides actually getting
married, is getting her
dress.
Although Julianne's
Bridal and Formal Wear
in Goderich looks small
from the outside, there
are more than 200 differ-
ent gown choices inside.
"We have a full selec-
tion," says owner Julie
Stratton. "There's a lot
to choose from.
Colour is still popular
in 2006 gown designs,
with more oyster and
taupe coloured gowns
being featured, though
white is the most
common.
"A lot of
women like
accent colours
and then the
bridal party can
be tied in and
they're all coor-
dinated," says
Stratton.
Lace is com-
ing back, adorn-
ing trains and
bodices to cre-
ate a more femi-
nine look.
Many skirts
feature layered
lace or organza
panels which is
very flattering
and romantic

and accessories from Julianne's
Bridal Wear in Goderich. Tiaras
and veils are still popular, with
veils being worn lower on the head
to accent the bride's hair. Veils are
available in different lengths, with
butterfly (shorter) and fingertip
(longer) being the most popular.
looking.
With many brides and
grooms heading to the
islands to get married,
the store also carries a
full range of "destination
gowns."
"They're light weight,
can pack easily, don't
take up a lot of space
and are cool to wear in a
hot destination."
Many "destination
gowns" have fluted bot-
toms as well, which is
elegant and comfortable.
Stratton says about 90
per cent of brides still
wear a veil.
"It gives it a nice, fin-
ished look. You want the
veil to complement the
gown."
Aside from different
veil lengths (butterfly
and fingertip), brides
can also choose from rib-
bon edged, serged edged
or plain cut edged.
Stratton suggests
brides choose their dress
10 months to a year
before the wedding day
to allow time for order-
ing, designing, delivery
and alterations.
Stratton says she can
easily tell when it's the
dress.
"We can usually tell by
the smile after it's been
zipped up ... the tears
usually come as soon as
the veil is put on an
they see their finishAd
look. We have tissues
too."
