Two months salary no longer the standard

The setting
The new big thing in engagement
rings is micropave' setting, a lot of
small diamonds, either on their
own or set around the focal stone.
"These are fairly new designs
within the last year," says Higgins,
adding coloured diamonds like
pinks and yellows in micropave'
settings are a popular variation.
"It's very design specific so it's not
for everybody," he cautions. '
Channel settings are always a
popular choice. Diamonds are set
into a channel in the band and can

Making it simple
When ring shopping it's usual for
the couple to go in for a prelimi-
nary look together. Higgins says a
price range and idea of style should
be in mind from the beginning, and
couples should really consider a
style that won't grow old with time.
"That happens all the time," says
Higgins, adding if the ring it too
trendy it quickly falls out of fash-
ion.
He points to the wraparound
styles and clusters that were big in
80s and have lost their appeal
today.
As for price, the old adage of two
months salary is no longer the
standard, it's whatever the individ-
ual is comfortable spending.
When the purchaser comes back
for a ring, Higgins says they should
have in mind the lifestyle of the
bride and how she will be wearing
it as a key factor in the decision.
"It's very necessary for the
process to be a wise and educated
one."
Wedding Joke: The Nervous Bride
The Minister noticed
the bride was in dis-
tress so asked what
was wrong. She replied
that she was awfully
nervous and afraid she
would not remember
what to do. The
Minister told her that
she only needed to
remember three things.
First the aisle, cos
that is what you'll be
walking down.
Secondly, the alter
because that is where
you will arrive.
Finally, remember
hymn because that is a
type of song we will
sing during the service.
While the bride was
walking in step with
the wedding march,
family and friends of
the groom were horri-
fied to hear her repeat-
ing these three words:
...Aisle, alter hymn
(I'11 alter hiin).
