One of her two sub- mitted photos won the People's Choice Award for best photograph, as voted by the 50-100 people who visited the photo showon its opening day. The show, entitled Business as Usual: Huron County at Work, includes 16 pic- tures, taken by eight different photogra- phers. Theshow is being financed through the Huron District Labour Council. The purpose of the show is to dis- play all of the interesting work that people do in Huron County, says one of the show's curators Carol McDonnell. "People should be proud of the work they do, and the county we live in," she says. Dyck says she wanted to partici- pate to show another side to Huron County agriculture. She says she feels that many peo- ple living in the county are accus- tomed to seeing the scenery and landscape and maybe do not appre- ciate it as much as they should. When Dyck heard of the photo show, she says she quickly came up with some ideas for shots. "It (the show) really excited me. I wanted to do something wild and raw and different looking," she says. Dyck was able to photograph a family she had worked with before in Varna. The winning photo, entitled Huron County Gold, depicts a combine and tractor moving towards the camera. The shot was taken in the evening, and has a cloud of dust rising from behind the equip- ment. Dyck says it was a wonderful feeling when she was informed she had won the award. "The fact. that other people liked it is great," she says. Dyck's other photo depicts a farmer walking towards a broken down combine with a wrench in hand, also taken at sunset. "It's a dark moody image of what agriculture can be like for a farmer," she says. Currently, the photo show is on display at the Wingham library. The show will come to the Medical Centre in Seaforth for the month of March. McDonnell says the show has been well received so far, and will consid- er making the show an annual event.
