HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuron Expositor, 2006-02-08, Page 18Page 18 February 8, 2006 • The Huron Expositor Sports Youth basketball offered for fifth year in Clinton Area athletes will be hit- ting the hardwood this spring as the CHSS Redmen Youth Basketball program kicks off its fifth year. Attracting about 100 Grade 1-8 students each year, CHSS teacher Jim Cooke said the program is a win -win-win experience, as participants meet new friends, learn basketball skills and get to know their future high school. "It gives the youth some- thing active to do indoors. If they're not competing in hockey or figure skating, there's not always a lot to do in the winter," he said. "Sometimes elementary schools are only getting phys ed class two days a week, so it's nice to get the youth out and active." Skill development ses- sions and games are held in the CHSS gymnasium on Monday nights. Players in Grades 1-4 begin at 6 p.m. and Grades 5-8 begin at 7:15 p.m. The program runs weekly from Feb. 6 to May 15. While there are many Clinton -area students involved, participants also travel from nearby towns like Seaforth and Goderich to play, Cooke said. He encouraged anyone interested to stop in, even if they missed the first night or two. The cost for registra- tion is $50, which includes a t -shirt. For more information, contact Cooke at 482-3471.
