I4esithkick Huron launches website
Jeff Heuchert
Healthkick Huron is continuing
to promote healthcare careers in
Huron County through its latest
venture, available at www.health-
kickhuron.ca.
The recently -launched website
was just something Healthkick
Huron needed to have, says project
manager Jessica Burgess.
"It's (the website is) a great portal,
because there wasn't a central site
for Huron County healthcare
(before)," she says.
Healthcare
Alliance begins
smoking
cessation pilot
- project
A "smoking cessation
initiative" that would
stop anyone smoking
on all hospital property
within the Huron-
Perth . Healthcare
Alliance has begun a
pilot project at the
maternal child units in
Stratford and Clinton.
"I don't know if I
agree with that or not,"
Seaforth's Alliance
board member Bob
Norris told members of
the Seaforth hospital's
Local Advisory
Committee (LAC) on
Jan. 30.
"Here, that would
mean if someone wants •
to smoke, he'll have to
go to the highway," he
said.
"Or, to (LAC mem-
ber) Alf's (Ross)
house," said another
committee member.
Ross lives near the
Seaforth hospital.
Site administrator
Mary Cardinal said the
initiative is one of the
College of Nurses' best
practice guidelines.
"Some question the
wisdom of it but others
think how could a hos-
pital allow smoking
anywhere," said
Cardinal. "It will be a
bit of a process while
we consider this."

The website offers not just general
information about the program, but
will continue to be updated with the
latest Healthkick Huron news.
Currently, you can download infor-
mation and an application for the
Rural Healthcare Work Placements.
The placements offer students a
temporary work placement at any
healthcare facility within the coun-
ty.
HealthKick Huron will help to fund
up to $3,000 of the student's wages
during the placement.
The website also has information
about the new MedQUEST camp
being held this July.
It will give Grade 10 and 11 stu-
dents in Huron and Perth Counties,
who are interested in a career in
healthcare, the opportunity to par-
ticipate in a week of hands-on med-
ical activities.
The website also has a number of
links to more information on
Healthkick Huron's Community
Ambassador and Nurse Training
programs.
The website offers links to all of
the area hospitals, and profiles on
"YOUR RENOVATION AND HOME SPECIALISTS!.'

Burgess says she looks forward to
new developments with the website.
She is currently working on
adding a Huron County Career
Profiles Page, where county health-
care workers can have their picture
along with an interview on display.
Burgess says that there are many
facets to Healthkick Huron, and the
website is a good way to get infor-
mation out to the public.
"Now, many people can know what
we're doing, and keep updated."

JENISH HOUSE DESIGN LIMITED ARROW LOT lig
Traditional touches like the deep main -floor veranda, wide
overhang and second -storey porch lend this Craftsman -style
two-storey home plenty of character. Designed especially for a
narrow lot, the plans include three bedrooms as well as a formal
dining room, living room and great room. The great room,
definitely designed with family time in mind, features a built-in
fireplace and access through french doors to a patio. Open to the
great room is the kitchen, where a large work island, raised
eating bar and generous walk-in pantry will ensure convenience
and comfort for the cook.
