Storm hits
Seaforth
area
A week after the
groundhog predicted
an early spring, a blast
of winter roared into
the region, knocking
out hydro in the area
on Saturday and
Sunday and closing
local highways
Monday.
Heavy, wet snow
caused plenty of
damage to local trees
and Huron East's
Public Works
Coordinator John
Forrest said he
received several calls
from residents
complaining of trees
falling on or beside
their houses.
"But, there was no
significant damage,"
he said.
Hydro One had 4,600
customers ,in the
Clinton area
including Tuckersmith
and Seaforth rural
routes - without power
much of the weekend.
•Daffyd Roderick, of
Hydro One, said high
winds and heavy snow
brought trees down on
wires and broke hydro
poles.

Lions. Pool
needs
$225,00
in repairs
Susan Hundertmark,

While it's outlived its life
expectancy by 10 to 15 years, the
5Q -year-old Seaforth Lions pool is
in desperate need of a major
overhaul.
And, the Seaforth Lions Club is
hoping the community will help to
raise the $225,000 necessary to
keep the pool open this summer.
"We've made it to 50 but we've
got major problems now. The pool
has to be fixed up or closed - it's
gotten to that point," says Lions
member Bob Beuttenmiller, who's
been maintaining the pool for 20
years.
Beuttenmiller says the deep end
wall is beginning to bulge because
the deck has dropped eight feet at
the deep end and the pipes
underneath the pool are being
crushed.
While there have been two major
breaks in the pipes, they were
capped last year until the decision
was made to dig up the deck and
repair the pool properly.
"We didn't want to spend money
on a bandage solution," says
Beuttenmiller.
As well, the pipes and valves
below the pool are completely
rusted because of the frequent
flooding of Silver Creek over the
years.
Renovation plans at the pool
include moving the pumphouse,
which is now located beneath the
pool, above the deck in a new 16 by
20 foot building between the pool
and the ball diamond. The filter
and piping and the deep end wall
will all be replaced.
The floors and walls of the
existing pool will be coated with
gunite, a sprayed concrete that will
prevent the need to paint the pool
for eight to 10 years. Painting is
usually done every year.
