"We. increased our raw vote and we increased our percentage vote. There are a lot of people - thousands in Huron -Bruce - who want us to speak for them," he said. While a close race between .the Liberals and CHP candidate dreads defeat of minority government Christian Heritage Party candidate Dave Joslin said he wants to forget about politics for a while. "I'm ready to go back to my job of being a fit- ter -welder - there's a lot less stress there than in politics," said Joslin, who received 1,019 votes 'in the Huron -Bruce riding. Joslin said he wishes he had received more of the popular vote in the riding, but will contin- ue "plugging away. He said the Conservative minority government will really have to watch itself and what it does in Ottawa. "They have the Bloq, NDP and Liberals just waiting to take them down," Joslin said. "I shudder at the thought of going through this process again in 18 months." He said the Conservatives may have to back off some of their election promis- es, but things like a tax reduction, more mili- tary funding and any- thing that assists farm- ers would likely get passed. By Dwight Irwin Conservatives flip-flopped the lead back and forth until past midnight in Huron - Bruce, ' Robertson trailed all night, earning 7,473 votes, a result Robertson said was a four per cent increase in the riding. "We were all expecting. a little bit better tonight. The results are no where reflec- tive of the campaign," he said. Robertson said he thought electoral reform to propor- tional representation would "see a lot more people who can vote for the NDP secure- ly."» "The main vote was a vote for change and to express disapproval for the Liberals. I saw a great deal of anger in the farm community," he said. With a minority Conservative government elected, Robertson predicted an election "sooner than later." "I'm not going away," he said, adding he hasn't com- mitted completely to run- ning again. At right, Grant Robertson and former NDP MPP Paul Klopp discuss Monday night's results. *4issiva.,a m.
