Huron -Bruce Liberal MP Paul Steckle addresses his supporters after winning a close race
against Conservative candidate Ben Lobb.
Lobb sees second place finish
as a battle won for CPC
Cheryl Heath
"Wow, pretty close. "
In three words the Conservative Party of
Canada's. candidate for Huron -Bruce
summed up what had amounted to three
hours of see -saw results for the riding,
which was one of the last to provide a final
tally of the 308 nationwide.
Though the final numbers were not yet in
after midnight, Lobb made his concession
speech to more than 100 family members
and supporters gathered at the Betty
Cardno Centre in Clinton.
Lobb acknowledged that winning the
riding was a formidable task given that the
re-elected Liberal incumbent had most
recently beaten his closest rival by 10,000
votes.
"Nine months ago, 10,000 votes were
needed to beat Steckle," says Lobb. "We had
a vision. One poll at a time. Take the hard
road, see what happens."
Lobb, who credited a combination of "hard
work, a good team and vision" for garnering
the 20,289 votes for the CPC, said though
second place was not the goal, it is not a
total loss.
"Maybe we didn't win the war but we

"I didn't expect it to be this
close but I did expect a dog fight,"
