As well, Ryan spent 1987-91 and
1993-94 in Peru working with spe-

by the Diocese of London and made
one - to two-month visits - to
Nicaragua in 1999, 2000, 2002 and
2004 after earthquakes and hurri-
canes.
"Working with special needs chil-
dren crosses all the' boundaries. It
taught me .that we're precious
s „ because we're all creat-
ed by God," says Ryan.
She is also planning
a two-month trip to
Africa, where she'll
work with children in
South Africa and
Kenya.
"It'll be a difficult
experience since it will
be overshadowed by
the extreme situations
brought on by death
and AIDS plus poverty
and drought," she says.
Ryan will be present-
ed with her award on
Jan. 23 at a London
city council meeting.
