Alliance receives provincial accountability agreements
The provincial Health Ministry
knows that short of cutting services,
the Huron -Perth Healthcare
Alliance is doing all it can to bal-
ance its budget.
That's what Alliance CEO
Andrew Williams has concluded
after receiving four accountability
agreements for the HPHA's four
hospitals on Dec. 22 that show con-
tinuing deficits until the end of the
2006-07 fiscal year.
"If the government felt we had the
opportunity to
make savings
that wouldn't
involve cutting
services, they
would have
pointed that out.
So, this is very

good news from that perspective,".
he said in a phone interview follow-
ing last Thursday's Alliance board
meeting.
However, Williams pointed out
that a $4.1 million deficit projected
for the end of 2005/06 and a $4.6
million deficit projected for the end
of 2006/07 are problems that need
to be solved.
"We cannot continue in a worsen-
ing position and the agreements
don't clarify balancing solutions.
That's the dilemma - it's getting
worse without addressing the situa-
tion," he said.
Williams said the Alliance is
already making efficiencies in
administration and looking at ways
to take services out of the hospital
and into the community. Actual cuts
