Slow start for Cullitons not a worry to Seaforth's Hulley Jeff Heuchert 4.11111111. Coming off of a disap- pointing first half to the season in the Midwestern Junior B Hockey League, Seaforth's Daryl Hulley is counting on the Stratford Cullitons to bounce back. Through 33 games, the Cullitons have a 14-17 record, which keeps them in the thick of things, but isn't up to the team's stan- dards, consider- ing they're only two years removed from winning the league champi- onship. "We've had lots of scoring oppor- tunities, but we haven't been able to capital- ize on them," he says:_ Hulley, age 17, says that every time the team turns over the puck, or misses a hit, the other teams are capitalizing. "Every mistake we're making are being magni- fied," he says. "You can tell everyone is getting frustrated." Hulley, a student a Central Huron secondary school, is playing in his first season at the Junior B level, after playing Junior D hockey with the Mitchell Hawks last sea- son.. He says the speed of the game at the junior B level is much quicker than he's used to, but says he didn't find it too hard adjusting. "It (the gameplay) is a lot cleaner with less hit- ting, and you have to react a lot quicker." Although he says he has adjusted, that hasn't translated into points on the ice just yet. In 25 games this sea- son, Hulley has recorded no goals, and eight assists. An alarm- ing number on his stat sheet, even to himself, is his 45 penalty minutes, good for fifth most on the team. "It's funny, because at the start of the season I had one of, tihe fewest penalty minutes." Hulley says the high number of penalty min- utes are a reflection of the frustration the players are feeling on the ice, adding that it is not the Cullitons' style of play. This season Hulley missed some action when he was sidelined with a pinched nerve in his neck, the result of a hit from CULLITONS Page, 19 Daryl Hulley Women over 600: none Standings: Ravens 60, Dolphins 60, Colts 58, Marlins 55, Vikings 48, Eagles 34.
