Huron East council is looking into
the possibility of partnering with a
private developer to reconstruct the
Brussels Public Library
Councillors made that decision at
their Dec. 6 meeting, following a
public meeting in Brussels about
four possible solutions to creating a
larger, more accessible building for
the library on Nov 16.
Huron East was asked close to a
year ago by the Huron County
Library Board to create a plan to
address the current building's defi-
ciencies.
Four options presented to council
by architect Allan Avis suggested
renovating the existing Carnegie
library, relocating to a store front
either on the east or west sides of
Turnberry Street or relocating to
the Brussels arena. Each of the four
options is estimated to cost around
$1 million

Joe Seili.
Beaven suggested
the possibility of doing

after the meeting that a
developer, who has not
been named, expressed
an interest in getting
involved in the project

"That would also mean cleaning
that downtown up and reviving
Brussels," he said.
MacLellan said the safest option
politically would be to fix up the
currently -used Carnegie building. '
"That would keep 90 per cent of
the people happy but I'm not sure
it's the best solution for the town,"
he said.
Seaforth Coun. Joe Steffler said
he is against taking the library out
of Brussels.
"I agree with Dave (Blaney). Let's
get some real figures and then we
can make up our mind," he said.
Correction
A story in last week's Expositor
incorrectly named the Clean Water
Act as the Safe Water Act and
neglected to include the Maitland
Valley Conservation Authority in the
title of Cathie Brown, who is source
protection project manager for both
the Maitland Valley and the Ausable
Bayfield Conservation Authorities.
