Consultant being hired to write business
plan for Huron's family health team

A consultant is currently being
hired to write a business plan for
the Huron County Family Health
Team (FHT), proposed to be based
in Seaforth.
Penny Nelligan, co-chair of the
planning and development team
and interim management board of
the Huron FHT, says candidates are
being interviewed this month.
"We're going step by step," says
Nelligan.
Nelligan is also director of the
Huron County Health Unit, which
is the transfer payment agency for
the FHT project.
Last spring, Seaforth was one of
the first 52 family health teams to
be approved by the province.
Seaforth's proposal aimed to look
after orphan patients throughout
Huron, starting in Seaforth and
eventually creating satellite offices
throughout the county.
At the time of the announcement
last spring, proposal writer Gwen
Devereaux read from a fax she
received from Health Minister
George Smitherman informing her
of the approval of Seaforth's FHT
and stating it was eligible for devel-
opmental funding and "you move to
the project refinement and develop-
ment stage, where you will be
expected to develop a business case
and implementation plan for the
development of your FHT."
The fax also said primary health
care team staff will be contacting
Devereaux to discuss next steps and
•
finalize "particulars such as gover-
nance, funding, resource planning
and numerous other administrative
details."
Nelligan says the business plan
should be submitted to the Ministry
of Health by April and if approved,
will begin the process of setting up a
family health team.
