Blyth Festival announces 2005
season surplus of over $4,000
The Blyth Festival has a surplus of just over
$4,700 in operations for the 2005 season,
members learned at the festival's annual gen-
eral meeting Dec. 8.
"We kept a firm control of expenses and
operated with fewer administrative and pro-
duction staff to produce five shows and 12
special events and
fundraising projects," said
general manager Gardner
conveyed.
"Fifty-seven per cent of
our revenues were earned
at the box office and
through special events, 27
per cent from government
sources and over $153,000
from members, donors and
corporate partners and
sponsors," she said.
Artistic Director Eric
Coates wrapped up the
success of the season by
defining it "as a celebra-
tion of the little guy,"

including two world premieres Powers and
Gloria by Keith Roulston and Denyse Gervais
Regan's The Thirteenth One.
Over 23,000 people enjoyed one of the pro-
ductions in 2005.
New marketing initiatives were implement-
ed, and exciting new partnerships were
formed.
The commitment from over 200 volunteers
was integral to the success of the season, as
was the vital support of members and donors.
And, thanks to a $27,000 donation from the
Ontario Trillium Foundation, capital improve-
ments in areas identified through the Health
and Safety review and upgrades in lighting
equipment were realized.
Management and staff are now preparing
for an extraordinary celebration of Canadian
theatre in 2006.
"We will produce our 100th world premiere,"
declared Coates.
"This puts us in a very exclusive club and
we're very excited about attaining this unique
distinction," he said.
