Joslin decries incumbent Liberal MP Paul Steckle's defence of his government's involvement in the sponsor- ship scandal. "Steckle defends this saying these were mistakes. Giving $850 million to 500 -plus com- panies to buy influence is not a mistake - it's theft and I'm very, very upset about it," says Joslin. "I really think we need to get rid of the Liberals and it bothers me that Paul defends the record of his government. He's got to go too," he says. Joslin, a fitter welder who lives in Grey ward in Huron East, is again running for the CHP because of a "desire to live out my faith." And, he says that English common law is based on a Christian belief system. Therefore, he's against any move to further regulate gun use, especially the recent Liberal party promise to ban handguns in Canada. He says the government promised during gun registry that there would be no inten- tion of banning hand guns. "The vast majority of mur- ders are not committed by guns at all. I believe in the old saw, 'Guns don't kill people; people kill people," he says. Joslin adds it's impor- tant that handgun own- ers be allowed to keep their "private property" to defend themselves, especially in rural areas. "Drugs are spreading our way with Huron County taking in the meth that's being pro- duced in Perth County. With drugs will come violence and other problems and we need to be able to defend our- selves with response time of the police being about 50 minutes out here," he says. Joslin says he's also con- cerned about the way Canada's judges are influenc- ing the law. "The next biggest issue is judicial activism where judges think they are the ones to make and break the laws. The Supreme Court said that even though sexual orientation is not in the Charter (of Rights) that it is to be read into it. If so, why do we have members of par- liament to create the laws?" he asks. Another concern of Joslin is the concentration of power in the Prime Minister's office arid the 3,000 appointments made by the PMO. "The Senate is supposed to be a place of sober second The Huron Expositor • December 14, 2005 Pogo 13 Please call for your in house consultation Laptop stolen during break-in at Hensall residence A laptop notebook was t tolen during a break-in at a residence on Oxford Street in Hensall on Dec. 7 between 9:30 and 11 p.m. An IBM Think Pad PIII, with seri- al number 36491-57362, was taken. Joslin criticizes the lack of spending on the Canadian military, which he says is in "a shambles." And, he's against the Liberal government's plan for a national daycare system, prefering the CHP's family friendly tax which would give $1,200 a year to families with children under the age of 18 to be spent on whatever form of childcare - including stay- at-home parents. "Polls show 70 per cent of women would prefer to stay at home with their children but are forced into the work- force by ruinous taxation. The family friendly tax would free up 1.5 million jobs in the workplace," he says.
