Words, words, and more words. Everyday we fill our lives with words. It is difficult to navigate the course of life without some form of communication. Still some things are better left unsaid as once we speak we can not pull back the words that have slipped off the edge of our tongue. It is a surprise to no one when we say let us be careful how we speak lest we regret a word spoken in haste or anger or without careful consideration. The Bible has much to say about our words. In Ecclesiastes 3 we read of a time to speak and a time to be silent. In the book of James we read of the comparison of the tongue with a horses' bridle, a flaming fire, the rudder of a ship. Each analogy speaks to the power of words, especially of the danger of words used in the wrong way. And now in this time of election- eering we will be hearing many words. The politicians are speaking "fast and furiously," each trying to outdo the other in the multiplica- tion of words. What will all these words mean? What does it really mean to be as "good as your word"? Is it true as some suggest that promises are made to be broken? In a time when less is better than more, I am afraid that the words will seemingly have no end. In Proverbs 6:12 we read "A worthless person, a wicked man, walks with a perverse mouth..." Certainly this is quite a warning to all of us. What kind of person are we? What do our words say about us? Will our leaders be mindful of their great responsibility to mea- sure their words carefully? The worthless person Proverbs 6 speaks of is a scoundrel. Such a person holds no regard. We all do well, including our politicians to measure our words, SAVE ON ALL IN -STOCK MERCHANDISE.. Bullying also happens on ice To the Editor, I am writing in regards to your letter on bullying in school. How about bullying in hockey games? I had the opportunity to watch a hockey tournmant in Palmerston on Saturday, Dec 10. Our Seaforth Atom 2 team played against Listowel in the first game and we were pushed, hit, tripped boarded, slashed with sticks and the list goes on. The referee we had did not call one penalty against this team. As this team saw they were not going to get penalized for this they con- tinued to do this the entire game. The professional Atoms we have did not strike back they are to be highly commended for playing the "no body contact" game the way it is supposed to be played. The Listowel players lost the next game and the Atom 2s went on to win the next two games. We as parents and grandparents that were at the game were extra proud of the Atoms as they battled their way to finish with the win: The boys each got trophies to be proud of. It's too bad the Listowel players weren't punished for their actions for I am sure they will do it again and get away with it. Congratulations Seaforth Atoms on your excellent sportsmanship you displayed on Saturday. Pat Stewart Seaforth Perfect gift expresses gratitude From Page 4 searching for that "perfect gift" for him, and I think I did a good job. 1 hope all of you have someone to be grateful for this holiday season, and that you spend some time searching for that gift that says 'thank you," as much as you feel.
