Call our newsroom at 527-0240 Staffs brothers finish track racing season with honours Jeff Heuchert For brothers Jamie and Jordan Hamilton of Staffa, success has come quickly at the Grand Bend Speedway circle track races. Jamie, 14, in his second year rac- ing, finished the season Junior A Points Champion, and Junior A Rookie of the Year. Eight-year-old Jordan finished his first season of racing second in points in the Junior C class. Circle track racing involves dri- ving a kart similar to a go-kart, around a circle track a number of times. Jamie, a Grade 9 student at Mitchell District High School, was bumped up to the Junior B class after only his first race. He raced there for most of his first season, which runs from late May into early September. By the end of his first season, Jamie had received eight trophies, submitted photo Brothers Jamie (left) and Jordan (right) stand with their karts at the Grand Bend Speedway during the circle track racing season this past summer. which are given to the top three finalists in each race. As for Jordan, a Grade 3 student at Upper Thames Elementary School, he said it didn't take much persuasion to get him to try racing. likTHE MUNICIPALITY OF HURON EAST is in the process of updating the Zoning By -Laws of the former Municipalities All Landowners & Residents are invited to two open houses on: Wednesday, December 14" 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Brussels Arena or Thursday, December 15t 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Huron East Town Hall, Seaforth to discuss the proposed draft Zoning By -Law. Jamie finished with 1,378 points, over 100 points better than the sec- ond place racer, while Jordan tallied 1,325 points, around 200 away from first place. Although Jordan isn't sure what his formula for success has been so far, he definitely knows what he likes about racing. "I like to drive when the kart goes really fast and I get to pass people," he said with excitement in his voice. As for Jamie, he explains why he was able to win his class. "I'm racing much better, I don't hesitate as much," he said. "I don't touch it (the brake pedal) because it takes so long for the kart to get up to its full speed," said Jamie. There have been some tense moments for the boys' parents, John and Karen, having to watch their sons race, including one instance when the kart Jamie was in hit the steel railing around the track and flipped, landing on its top. The incident wasn't as stressful to Jamie. "It was fun, it was like a roller- coaster," he said almost laughing. Both racers have been in minor accidents, but nothing serious. Every racer has to wear a helmet, neck brace, harness to the roll cage, flame retardant suit and wrist restraints. See NEW, Page 15 i flL4NKYOU!
