Relief fund
set up for
Roden family
A relief fund has been set up at
Desjardins Credit Union for the
Seaforth family whose house was
gutted by fire last week.
Donations of money, clothing
and small household items will
be accepted for the Roden family
until the end of December, says
Desjardins manager Gayle
Coleman.
"They lost it all in the fire and
I heard they had Christmas pre-
sents bought too," says Coleman.
She says the credit union will
also accept items for the Rodens'
grandchildren - an eight-year-old
boy and 18 -month-old girl - who
were living with their mother
and grandparents in the house
destroyed by fire.

to Exeter on Dec. 14," she said, adding that
each clinic is set up to accommodate a limited
number of people.
Cathy Harrison, the Fishers' next-door
neighbour, was one of the first-time donors
who decided to give blood after hearing of an
`"in memory" clinic in Mackenzie's honour.
"I never thought of giving blood before but I
have three boys at home that really miss
Mackenzie. He was a big teddy bear,"
said Harrison.
While Harrison's sons Luke, 12,
Jake, 9 and Kasey, 7, were much
younger than Mackenzie, they enjoyed
his company as an occasional babysit-
ter and companion during a game of
driveway hockey or a bounce on the
trampoline.
"He was a nice boy," said Harrison,
adding that she now plans to give
blood regularly.
Patty Gridzak, another first-time
donor, said that while she didn't know
Mackenzie, she was motivated
nonetheless to attend in his memory
"I've known Bob for 30 years and it
was time to finally donate," she said.
"I'm not a needle person but I've got
all the dates now and I hope to go to
all six clinics this year," she added.
Sarah Stoll, 21, of Kippen, was
attending her seventh clinic as a blood
donor but was still there Monday in
Mackenzie's memory.
"I'm a friend of Courtney
(Mackenzie's sister) and I thought I'd better
come when I heard about the clinic," she said.
Talking with friends from Seaforth on the
internet, most of whom are away at college or
university, Stoll said many wished they could
have attended the clinic.
"The whole group that hangs around said
they would have come but they're at school.
People have been talking about it since last
week. It was definitely touching," she said.
