Sports
Seaforth Figure
Skating Club to hold
Skate-a-thon Jan. 16
Ashley Eddie
The Seaforth Figure
Skating Club is holding a
skate-a-thon in the new
year for the roughly 70
kids involved in the club.
The skate-a-thon will be
held on Jan. 16 at the
Seaforth Community
Centre.
There are activities
planned for the younger
skaters. There will also be
a more challenging event
planned for the older
skaters to give the day a
more competitive edge.
"This is just to make it
more of a special day," said
Stacey Dayman, who is
helping to organize the
January event.
Dayman, 22, is a student
at Lambton College. She
has been involved in skat-
ing since the age of six and
is a previous member of
the Figure Skating Club.
When Dayman was a
member, there were over
100 kids figure skating.
"It's unfortunate," said
Dayman about the
decrease in enthusiasm for
the sport.
Dayman wishes that
kids would get involved in
skating again and believes
that the sport is a moral
booster for the kids.
"Skating helps kids' con-
fidence," said Dayman.
