The anony-
mous donation
came after the
story about the
band's financial
difficulties
appeared in
newspapers
throughout
Huron County
last week.
"That is really
good news. You
tell this person,
we'd give them a
kiss if we could,"
says Breen.
While Huron
East was the
first council to
receive a presen-
nesses, looking
for support.
"I wish we
could find a
business that
would support
the band the
way many do
with sports
teams. A lot of
big businesses
have a cause'
and I keep hop-
ing I'll find one
that would love
to sponsor a
girls' band," she
says.
The all -girls'
band recently
raised $4,000
during Family
Fun Day
fundraiser in
Clinton and is
selling rubber
bracelets
engraved with
the phrase,
"Marching On."
Breen is also
hoping to be able
to find a way to
connect with the
many women
who were once
members of the
Seaforth all -girls
band during its
almost 50 -year
history.
"If we can tap
into the alum-
nus, maybe we
can find a bit of
support there.
People are
always telling
me they used to
be in the band
and how much
fun they had,"
she says.
Breen says one
of the biggest
challenges the
band faces when
fundraising is
that it's been
around so long
that people take
it for granted.
"It's always
been here - the
sound of the
drumbeat is so
familiar. I just
hope people
don't think to
donate after it's
too late and we
have to fold up."
