Because the Rodens deliver
newspapers in the area, they
spent the early hours of
Monday morning from 1:30 to
6 a.m. working as firefighters
tried to extinguish their
home.
The Rodens, who hold yard
sales at their home during
the summer months, also lost
close to $20,000 in inventory
- including antiques and elec-
tronic equipment - from their
yard sale business, says Paul.
He says neighbours and
friends have been very gener-
ous, offering clothing, food
and places to stay. "
"People have been very
good," he says.
Family friend Trevor
English says he's in the
process of beginning a relief
fund for the family through a
church in Exeter.

Christmas Bureau gearing up
to accept donations Monday

St. Thomas Anglican and First
Presbyterian Churches are gearing up to
open this year's Christmas Bureau next week
at First Presbyterian.
"We're got a nice basement here to do it,"
says Janneke Murray, of First Presbyterian.
From Dec. 5 t9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the
bureau will be open to accept donations of
food, clothing and toys for needy families.
Donations can also be dropped off at drop
boxes throughout Seaforth at local banks,
churches, schools and the medical centre.
"Seaforth is awesome. They really get
behind this thing. We already have $1,000 in
donations from some service clubs," says
Murray.
Numbers of families who used the
Christams Bureau were the highest ever last
and Murray is expecting over 150 chil-
to provide gifts for this year.
She says she hopes everyone
who needs help to get through the
Christmas season calls 1-800-265-
5198 to register.
"A lot of people who are work-
ing poor are too embarrassed to reg-
ister but I wish that everyone who
needs help will come forward," says
Murray.
Along with the clothing, toys
and food, the bureau is this year
handing out vouchers for booster
seats.
Murray says she's hearing
from a lot of people who want to vol-
unteer their labour at the bureau.
"We're getting calls from peo-
ple outside the church asking to be
part of the Christmas spirit. It's a
good feeling," she says.
