retirement. "But you have to," refer-
ring to the mandatory retirement
age of 65.
After 50 years at the home Bob
built, they moved into Heartland
Apartments in Clinton, before mov-
ing into the Seaforth Manor because
of safety concerns with Bob's mobili-
ty.
Surprisingly, Eileen will be the
first to admit, Bob and herself are
total opposites.
"If he says black, I say white," says
Eileen. "We don't think alike."
Yet, clearly there's much the two
have in common.
Frances says the both of them are
"really honest, moral people, with
good ethics."
Ironically, Bob says he never want-
ed to live to grow old, but Eileen is
cherishing every moment they have.
"We've had so many wonderful
years with the family," she says.
"There's still so much to look for-
ward to, we have great grandchil-
dren."
When asked what the key is to
their long lasting relationship,
Eileen says she had a goal and she
stuck to it.
Eileen says she's committed to the
marriage so she is going to "see
things through."
"Both genuinely care about each
other," says Frances.
Bob's advice to long lasting happi-
ness: "Let the women have her own
way," he says.
The couple celebrated their 70th
anniversary with an English tea
party, accompanied by some family
inside the Manor.
When asked if they think - they can
beat the standing world record for
the longest lasting marriage, which
is 80 years, Eileen says she doesn't
think about those things, and advis-
es any couple, "You just have to go
day by day."
